Filament snapping before the extruder
The filament breaks in the tube or on the spool, often leaving short brittle pieces.

Try these in order
Most likely and quickest to check first. Change one thing at a time so you know what fixed it.
Old or wet PLA
PLA that has sat out absorbs moisture and becomes brittle, especially where it's bent tightly.
- Dry the spool, then store it sealed with desiccant.
Tight bends in the filament path
- Move the spool so the filament runs in a gentle curve to the extruder.
- Make sure the spool turns freely so the filament isn't pulled tight.
