Curling or droopy overhangs

Parts of the print that stick out sag, curl upwards or look rough and messy underneath.

Also described as overhangs, curling, sagging overhang, messy overhang, drooping, overhang curling up

Try these in order

Most likely and quickest to check first. Change one thing at a time so you know what fixed it.

  1. Not enough cooling

    • Run the fan at 100% for PLA, and higher than usual for PETG on overhangs.
    • Slow down overhang walls, or turn on the slicer's overhang slowdown.
  2. Overhang too steep

Most printers manage about 45 to 55° from vertical without support.

    • Add supports, or change the model to add a chamfer instead of a flat overhang.
    • Rotate the part so less of it overhangs.
  3. Too hot

    • Lower the nozzle temperature by 5 to 10 °C.
