Print fails at the same point every time
Prints keep stopping, shifting or turning to mess at the same height or after about the same time, no matter what you print.
Also described as fails at same height, fails same place, stops at the same layer, fails at 75%, always fails halfway, print stops mid way
Try these in order
Most likely and quickest to check first. Change one thing at a time so you know what fixed it.
Filament tangled or caught on the spool
A crossed-over winding tightens as the spool unwinds until the extruder can't pull any more.
- Check the spool where it stopped. If the filament is crossed under another loop, unwind it and rewind it neatly.
- Keep the loose end clipped into the spool's side holes when you store it.
Heat creep after a long print
- Check the hot end fan runs and the heatsink is clean. See heat creep.
Cable, tube or spool snagging at one height
- Move the print head and bed by hand through their full travel and watch for cables, the filament or the PTFE tube catching.
A problem in the model or the G-code file
If it fails at the same layer of the same model, look at that layer in the slicer's preview.
- Check the layer preview for missing sections or a sudden jump.
- Re-copy the file, or print from a different SD card or over the network; a corrupt file stops at the same point every time.
Power or thermal safety shutdown
- Check the screen for a heating error. See thermal runaway errors.
