Visible seam or zipper

A vertical line of bumps or a small gap runs up the side of the print where each layer starts.

Also described as seam, z seam, zipper, seam line, line up the side, scar on wall

Try these in order

Most likely and quickest to check first. Change one thing at a time so you know what fixed it.

  1. Seam in a visible place

Every layer has to start somewhere. You can only choose where.

    • Set the seam to 'rear', or paint it onto a hidden edge or sharp corner in the slicer.
  2. Too much plastic at the start and end of each loop

    • Tune pressure advance (linear advance).
    • Turn on wipe, and try a small amount of coasting.
  3. Retraction settings

    • A gap at the seam: lower the retraction or add a little extra restart distance. A bump: the reverse.
